Sunday School

Here is a little bit of information about our Sunday School program.

If you would like more information you can download a copy of our
Christian Education Handbook or contact Sarah Laflamme,
Director of Christian Education at christian-ed@wcumc.us.
Regular attendance at Sunday school is a powerful tool in developing faith and strongly encouraged. However, children are welcome in Sunday school regardless of how often they are able to attend. Visitors are always welcome. For safety reasons we ask that parents fill out a separate registration for each child. These will be kept for confidential reference by teachers in case of an emergency. A visitor registration form (available from teachers) must be filled out by a responsible adult before visiting children can be left in the care of the Sunday school staff.
Children should not arrive at Sunday school before 9:15 AM as there is not adequate supervision available before that time. Between 9:15am and 9:30am, parents should walk preschool and elementary children to the Fellowship Room for some free play center time. Jr and Sr High students meet in the youth lounge for a short worship time.  Preschool and elementary children will gather in the fellowship hall for chapel time at 9:30am.  All children and youth will go to their classrooms at the end of worship time for age appropriate exploration of the scripture lesson.  Dismissal time from Sunday school is 10:30AM. We ask that parents arriving before 10:30 AM please wait in the lobby area of the Christian Ed Building. If the 9:30 AM church service extends beyond dismissal time, teachers will have additional activities planned for the children until parents arrive. For safety purposes all students, in fifth grade or lower, must be picked up at their classroom by a parent unless other arrangements have been communicated in writing from the parent to the teacher.
We work with families encouraging children to share their gifts of time, talent and money. An offering is taken each week during chapel time. The monetary amount of the offering is less important than the experience of children giving to their church.
Nursery care is available for infants and children age 3 or younger in the nursery rooms just below the sanctuary. Parents can attend the 9:30AM worship service each Sunday with the knowledge that our loving Nursery Staff is caring for their child. Safety and cleanliness are priorities in the nursery area and all Safe Sanctuary Procedures are carefully followed.
We use a lectionary based curriculum in order to connect the stories that the children are exploring with the scripture readings that adults are hearing in the sanctuary.  We have chosen The Whole People of God as our lectionary based curriculum.  The curriculum also ties in activities that can be done at home as well as intergenerational worship services for when our children attend worship in the sanctuary.
